Apple Bashing Wallpaper... don't get me wrong, anything is better than Windows. But you don't need to spend $3,000 in hardware and $800 in software to have a computer that does what you need. Thats what Linux is for.

Just to add to this -- buying a Mac because you're sick of Windows is like buying a new car because you need an oil change. Big time over kill.

What I hate is their misleading ad campaign. Ever seen the commercials?

Try searching Google Video to see if you can find the Mac vs PC Commercials. They are not jokes at all, as much as I wish they were. A lot of corporations here do many unethical things to make sales and it's always the consumer that suffers for it.

As a platform, theres nothing wrong with Mac. As a Corporation, theres a long long list of things that are wrong with Apple. I've got nothing against the OS itself. I mean, it's based on BSD and sure, no operating system is "perfect" and anything man made is by default flawed -- but overall it's a really nice OS -- generally speaking.

Mac hardware is a lot more expensive than PC Hardware, which economically is like trying to market a Rolls Royce as if it's a used Ford. Their marketing campaign makes people think that Windows is the only thing that will run on a PC which you already know is not true at all. However, most people are not computer savvy. This new age of computers is a brand new and exciting thing and they have no idea that there are other things that will run on a PC besides Windows. So Mac takes advantage of that ignorance when the ignorant should be educated -- not taken advantage of.

Windows has too many problems that Microsoft COULD correct, but -- if they made Windows immune to spyware and most virii (such as Mac, Linux, BSD and the list goes on is already immune) then they would lose countless millions on technical support and misc development services because putting a band aid on the problem is profitable -- finding a cure is not.

Just like how here in the USA we have the FDA (Food and Drug Accossiation) that have explained their mandate towards such diseases as cancer as being "we are trying to research and develop a means to make these things treatable and managable diseases".

This means, they are trying to create dugs that will dead-stop a disease as if you do not even have it -- AS LONG AS you keep BUYING and taking the drug that accomplishes this. With a cure -- you buy the cure, you take the cure and you are cured. But with a treatment that you have to take for the rest of your life -- you are continously paying money for all of your life to keep your illness in check.

It is not profitable to eliminate problems. It is profitable to have the need to keep fixing them over and over and over.

So that is how Microsoft makes a lot of their money. It is genius, in an evil sort of way. Bill Gates is much better at marketing strategy than he is programming. To create an easy yet unstable operating system and make it a world standard means the money keeps rolling in for Microsoft. Not very moral or ethical, but I do acknowledge the genius involved.

Just as Mac's ad campaign is equally genius, but still just as wrong. Maybe in Europe your average person is aware of the differences between Windows, Linux, Mac, etc.. and are able to make more informed choices. But in the USA -- most people do not have this information and most are easily tricked.

Most Americans dare I say do mean well, try to be as nice as possible, hate George W Bush and share the concerns that the whole world has. But unfortunately -- no mater how well intensioned most Americans are -- most are still very naive and ignorant. Unethical Marketing would not be as successful as it is if this was not true.

What would be really cool is if someone were to reverse-engineer or port the Macintosh X-Server (aka OSX) to a standard x-window client that can adapt to any hardware. That way, by combining the x-client with PC-BSD or FreeBSD, you could get most of the performance of a modern Macintosh on the economical and flexible hardware base of a PC.

But that would make too much sense... :D

Well you need to open your mind to other perceptions of thinking. Of course you can fully disagree with those perceptions but the point is to be able to understand them, not to agree with them.

My main beef is just their misleading commercials. As if only Windows can run on a PC or something. Such a load of horse shit. I wish some major corporation with a fondness for Linux would sue them for slander / libel.

I do understand why Apple has not fully opened the "PC Door" just yet. I don't agree with their reasons and I think they're a bunch of crack smoking morons for not opening a lucrative door that should have been opened a very long time ago. However, I do know and understand their reasons. Even though I strongly disagree with them.

They sell computers, not software. They want to sell systems with everything pre-loaded. They want their hardware to be theirs, not anyone else's. They want to be creative and original. Well, I'm all for creative and original. Focusing on the sales of unique hardware was all well and great for the 1980's and 1990's. IBM did it. Amiga did it. Commodore 64 did it. TRS-80 did it. Of course Apple did it. It was the two decades of "Ford versus Chevy" sort of competition. It was all well and fun, before the age where the Internet stole most of its concepts from the BBS Scene and merged into a world wide network. In a time where people would dial up to their favorite local BBS and toss around obscenities to other people as they explain why Brand X computer kicks ass and everyone else's choice sucks.

That was then and this is now. Now, it's all about the users ability to customize and upgrade. Making all hardware as compatible as possible. All software working together as much as is possible. Things such as open source and case modding and addons and plugins. It's all about molding and shaping both your hardware and software to better be able to say "this is mine, this is a representation of myself and who I am!"

Apple just doesn't get it. Even a lot of my crappy brand name PCs, much to my pure shock -- have not only slowly been starting to make their motherboards and cases 100% ATX Standard Non-Proprietary, but corporations such as the evil and elusive Dell Computers have been embracing non-Windows OSes such as Linux.

In a world where Microsoft still has more than 50% of the population brain washed, Apple could really benefit from going on an Anti-PC campaign to an Anti-Windows campaign. Making their operating system IBM PC Compatible and selling it! Sure, there are pirated hacks that you can download on BitTorrent and surprisingly they seem to work well. MAC OS doesn't work on a PC by default obviously. However, the fact that suck *working* pirated hacks exist should tell this stupid company that if people would pirate a hack for use on a PC, that people would PURCHASE a LEGIT copy of MAC OS for a PC were such a thing available for sale!

They could totally ruin Microsoft Windows but they've got their heads too far up their asses to be able to see it.
